This Vero Beach retreat pairs Dutch Caribbean architecture with laid-back interiors for the ultimate coastal getaway.
By the time designer David Smith's clients called, they had already fallen for Windsor, the private residential enclave in Vero Beach, Florida. When an ideal lot became available, they seized the opportunity to create a home tailored to the life they envisioned: a modern Dutch Caribbean—inspired main house with two guest cottages for their growing family.
Inside, Smith kept the palette cool and deliberately restrained, allowing the palm-lined golf course and expansive views to command attention—and relaxation. Sculptural plaster traces a continuous path from walls to ceilings, while unexpected art and flashes of color lend the serene interiors a sense of warmth, wit, and personality.
The result is a comfortable yet elegant vacation home where three generations gather year after year.
